Watchmaking without borders
How about an international mechanical watch?
A few months ago, I was happy to unveil our very first limited edition: L’Instantanée LIP by S&A. It was a new challenge for me, exciting, amazing and full of all the emotions that make these exclusive launches so special. The result? A success as unexpected as it was delightful: all 20 pieces were pre-ordered in 7 minutes! After a summer entirely dedicated to their manufacture, the workshop has just finished delivering them: in France of course, but also in Asia, Europe and North America!
This frank success has obviously made us want to create a second limited edition… But this time, open to the world and to a more global and multicultural history of watchmaking.
The starting point
In 2018, the very first press article about Semper & Adhuc’s creation was published, and written by Allen Farmelo. The veteran American journalist is a highly discerning connoisseur of vintage and modern watches, an avid supporter of independent watchmaking, and now a founding member of the leading watch blog Beyond The Dial.
Since this publication, the dialogue between Allen and myself has never stopped. One thing led to another and the idea of creating a watch symbolizing this transatlantic friendship was born. Especially since the United States also has a fascinating watchmaking history, full of interesting details, and represented by some legendary brands, including Bulova. We had our starting point.
“Synchronicity, when you hold us…”
Since everything happens for a reason, I had a small selection of Bulova movements in a drawer, including about twenty of the series 5 (synchronicity, when you hold us…) Little marvels of barely 15mm long, deliciously decorated. These movements were designed in Switzerland between 1936 and 1975, then completed and assembled on American soil.
Allen, with his many years of experience in the North American watchmaking industry, contacted the Bulova team and proposed this crazy project of a Franco-Helvetic-American watch, based on an old movement. Enthusiastic and curious to discover what we had in store for them, Bulova’s team was kind enough to give us their blessing and support for a co-development of this IMMEDIATE blue white and red watch, which we are very proud to unveil today.
